Eocene Fossil Shark Teeth – ENCHODUS LIBYCUS– Authentic Moroccan Specimens

These are authentic teeth from the extinct bony fish, Enchodus, often referred to as the “saber-toothed herring.” These fossil teeth, ranging from 1 to 2.7 inches in length, are on the larger end for Enchodus specimens. Due to their delicate nature, most of these teeth have repaired cracks from fractures that occurred during fossilization or collection. The photos provided are representative examples, but not the exact teeth you will receive. Quantity discounts are available.

Enchodus thrived during the Upper Cretaceous period and is recognized for its strikingly large fangs located at the front of both the upper and lower jaws, as well as on the palatine bones. These fangs, coupled with a sleek body and large eyes, indicate that Enchodus was a formidable predator of its time. These fossils are a prized addition for collectors, fossil enthusiasts, and anyone interested in paleontology, offering a glimpse into the predatory marine life of the Cretaceous seas.

Otodus obliquus and Megalodon vs Enchodus

The connection between Otodus obliquus and Megalodon lies in their evolutionary relationship. Researchers consider Otodus obliquus an ancestor of Megalodon, with the prevailing belief that Megalodon evolved from a lineage of Otodus species. Fossil evidence suggests a transition from Otodus-like sharks to the larger, more massive Megalodon over millions of years.
